What Swoop does

Swoop is a Chrome extension and web app that helps you sort and analyze Instagram content. We're clear about what we touch and what we never touch — the sections below spell out exactly that.

What we collect

We only collect information we need to run Swoop and keep your account working:

  • Account details. Your name, email address and sign-in account identifier. You can sign in with email and password or through a third-party sign-in provider. For email sign-in, our authentication provider stores a one-way hash of your password; Swoop staff cannot see it in readable form.
  • Sign-up details. We ask for your date of birth to check that you are at least 13. You may also provide your role and company name. These details stay on your account profile.
  • Instagram handles you choose to analyze. When you analyze a creator's reel, we record the public creator handle so your past results make sense to you later.
  • Saved reel metadata. Public post data about the content you analyze — URLs, captions, thumbnails, counts and audio identity — described under "Research corpus" below.
  • Analysis results. The text output of an analysis: transcript, topic, visual hooks and summary, stored against your account so you can review it.
  • Credit balance and purchase status. How many credits you hold, and whether a Pro subscription is active — synced from our payment provider, never a card number.
  • Anonymous product analytics. Which pages and features get used, plus crash and error reports. These carry no content, no Instagram username and no payment data.

We don't use your information to build advertising profiles, and we don't sell it.

What we never store

These are the three things people ask about most:

  • Your Instagram credentials or session tokens. We never read or store your IG password or login cookies. The extension uses your existing, already-logged-in IG session in the browser — it never asks for or handles your credentials.
  • Video or image files after analysis. When you use AI analysis, media content is processed by an AI service and then discarded by Swoop. We never store the media itself — only text results (transcript, topic, hooks, summary) and the public metadata described below.
  • Payment card details. All payment processing is handled by our payment provider. We never see, handle, or store card numbers, CVV, or billing details.

How we access your Instagram data

Your existing IG session, nothing else

The extension operates only within your existing Instagram session in the browser. It does not store, cache, or transmit your IG login credentials. It accesses only content you've already saved or are currently viewing — it does not crawl or scrape your account broadly.

Sorting saved content without AI happens on your device; its post metadata is not sent to Swoop's server. When you use AI analysis, the extension sends video content and any custom persona instructions or questions you provide to our server, which sends them to an AI service for processing. Swoop discards the media after analysis. We retain the text output and public metadata described under "Research corpus" below.

Research corpus

When you analyze a reel, Swoop stores that reel's public metadata — creator handle and follower count, like/comment/view counts, audio identity, duration, caption, and other public post data — together with the full AI analysis of that reel, in a shared research corpus we use to improve Swoop and study content performance. The stored analysis includes the transcript and the written analysis of the reel, and, where you asked your own questions about it, the text of those questions and their answers. Please avoid putting names, client details or anything else confidential into a custom question, as that text is stored with the analysis.

If you analyze a reel using the standard settings — no custom persona and no questions of your own — the resulting analysis is treated as being about the reel rather than about you. It carries no link to your account, and we may serve that same analysis to another Swoop user who later analyzes the same reel, instead of running the AI again. An analysis produced with your own persona or your own questions is never shown to anyone else; it is recorded as yours until you delete your account.

Corpus records outlive account deletion. Deleting your account removes your personal data and severs the link between you and any analysis you produced, but the analyses and the reel records themselves remain in the corpus. As above, we never store video or image media bytes — only metadata and text. Ingestion into the corpus is on by default for every analysis in this version of Swoop, and there is currently no opt-out.

Third-party services

We partner with a small number of specialized providers. Here's exactly what each one receives:

Sign-in provider
Your name, email address and sign-in account ID; for email sign-in, your password is stored as a one-way hash
Account and data hosting
Account, billing-status and analysis data stored for your account, on our behalf
Payment provider
Your email and billing details for payment processing
Product analytics
Anonymous usage events and error reports — no content, no Instagram username, no card data
AI analysis service
Video content and any custom persona instructions or questions you provide for AI analysis; Swoop discards the media after processing

Data you control

  • You can delete your account any time from the account page, or by emailing us. This permanently removes your login, your sign-up details, your analysis history and your credit balance. It does not remove the analyses themselves from the shared research corpus described above — those are kept, with the link to you severed, as explained in that section.
  • If you have an active subscription, cancel it first via "Manage billing" on your account page — our payment provider stops the billing, and then the deletion can proceed.
  • If you have a question about how we handle your data, or want to exercise a privacy right, email [email protected]. See the Terms of Service and Refund Policy for the rest of the rules that apply to your account.

How we use your sign-up details

Your date of birth is used only to check that you are 13 or older. It is not used for advertising, profiling or analytics, and is deleted with your account. Your optional role and company name help us understand who uses Swoop; they are also deleted with your account.

Emails we send you

We send service emails such as email confirmation, password reset when requested, and purchase receipts. These are for your account and purchases, not marketing.
